Frequently Asked Questions About Energy Work
1. How does
energy therapy work?
We are energy bodies. Energy surrounds
us in layers and runs through us in pathways that form the
foundation for our health. Like oxygen and blood, energy
needs to flow though the body in order to sustain our
health.
Sometimes
these energy fields or paths are blocked or compromised and
the energy is
stagnate.
Using heightened physical
and intuitive sensitivity, the energy practitioner will act
as a conduit or channel for energy to the client. They will
help the body clear away energy that is no longer needed or
help to move the energy to restore its flow. The energy used
comes from the universe (God) and the earth, not from the
practitioners own source of energy. The practitioner uses a
heart-centered, focused intention for the client's highest
good.
It is believed that we are all connected
energetically to each other and to the earth. This is what
enables the practitioner to "tune in" to the body's energy
needs. The body is designed to heal itself and proper energy
flow can jumpstart that process.
2. Are there immediate
benefits following an energy session?
Sometimes, yes. Often you will feel lighter (emotionally
and stress-wise) and relaxed. If you come into the session
in a relaxed state and feeling good, you may not notice much
of a change, although I can assure you that you have
benefited. If you have physical ailments at the time
of the session you may notice a decrease in pain or
soreness, or the pain may go away completely.
"Repairs" in your energy field can be
made during a session. A disruption can be detected in the
aura and can be addressed. Everything that happens to us
physically shows itself in the auric field prior to
manifesting in the physical body. It is possible to
energetically adjust the outer body field which, in turn,
would prevent a physical malady. In other words, energy work
can fix it before it's broken.
3. Isn't Reiki the same as
"faith healing"? Do I have to believe it will work?
No. Faith healing depends on the recipient of the healing
believing a certain way and heavily participating in the
healing by having enough faith for it to happen. Reiki uses
the focused intention of the practitioner only and requires
nothing of the recipient. That being said, if the recipient
is somehow put in the position of attending a session under
duress, it is possible for them to willfully block the flow
of energy.
I understand your doubt - I've been there. But, it
doesn't matter what you believe. Of course, being open to
the work will enhance your experience with it and you will
be more attuned to your body's responses to the energy
movement. From personal experience, I can tell you that
being in "allow" mode during a session opens your body and
spirit up to receive everything good that wants to come in.
4. What will I feel in a session?
Certainly, everyone is different. You will usually
experience deep relaxation which will begin a self-healing
process in your body. You may feel heat or tingling, whether
it is at the site where hands are placed or elsewhere in the
body. The energy moves where it needs to. For example, it is
not uncommon to feel sensations in your legs or arms when my
hands are placed on your feet or head. Sometimes the
relaxation will give in to a sort of "floating" feeling.
This is a good thing and should be enjoyed, not feared. You
heightened relaxation will increase the benefits to your
body.
I use tuning forks for clearing energy
and for sound therapy (people and animals). When these are
sounded you can feel this through your body as the sound
resonates with your body. It is believed that movement
created by the pure fifth interval (the frequency of the
tuning forks) will enhance the cranial rhythmic impulse by
moving the cerebral spinal fluid.
Therapeutic grade essential oils may be used for
relaxation, pain relief or many other emotional or stress
issues. Some of these can be physically applied to the body,
or will simply be inhaled.
5. How often should I schedule a session?
As often as you would like. Monthly sessions are nice
for maintaining your energies. Sometimes one session will do
the trick and is all you may need. If you are addressing a
pain situation or surgery it may be a good idea to do weekly
sessions.
Healing Touch and Reiki is great for pre
and post surgery, especially for promoting quick healing of
surgical sites and clearing both the physical body and
energy body from the effects of anesthesia. This would apply
to both you and your pets.
6. I have a pet parrot. Can he have a Healing
Touch for Animals ®
Absolutely! If your parrot likes to be touched, it would be slightly different from working on a cat or dog, but hands or fingers could be put on the body during the same techniques. Because HTA can be administered without actually touching, this makes it possible to apply energy techniques to any animal, wild, tame, fish or fowl. As amazing as it sounds, energy follows thought. If the intention is there, the energy will apply itself without physical touch.
7. Why do Healing
Touch practitioners use a pendulum?
The pendulum is a tool, much like a dowsing rod used to
detect water underground. It lets us know if there are
energy blockages or whether or not to use particular
techniques. It is a form of 'applied kinesiology', which
uses muscle testing. The body's spirit responds to thoughts
and words and uses the energy to move the pendulum to answer
questions. It is a physical response reading of the
practitioner's heightened intuition.
8. How is distant healing
possible?
The best way to describe how distant
healing works is to compare the energetic connection we all
have to other long-distance transfers of energy, such as
satellite or radio waves. The practitioner can use these
waves of energy to connect to the client, as a radio
frequency is picked up by a radio tuner. Distance is not
relevant to the work being done.
Energy follows
thought and it is sent, by focused intent, to the client for
their highest good. Even though we can't see the waves of
energy we need to remember that everything is made of energy
and that there is a higher universal intelligence guiding
the work. For me, this is God.
I know it sounds impossible, but it is real and I've seen
(and felt) it happen.
9. If energy work causes my body to relax, of
course it feels good. This isn't actual healing, is it?
Ah, but what is relaxation - really? How often has
your doctor told you to go home and relax? Relaxation is the
best state in which your body is capable of healing.
Carol Komitor, founder of Healing Touch for Animals®
has ingenuously developed a chart that
references the effects that relaxation has on the body.
Please take a look at the link of her chart below.
I
have paraphrased the sequence for you:
1. A relaxed body releases endorphins in the
brain
2. Endorphins serve to further relax
the muscles
3. When muscles relax they
contract, which allows increased circulation of blood
4.
Increased circulation of blood raises the oxygen level in
the body
5. Elevated oxygen and increased
blood circulation carries nutrients through the body,
allowing absorption
6. Enzymes build, as a
result
7. Hormones are regulated
8.
Toxins are released
9. Healthy cell growth is
promoted by the release of toxins
10. Healthy cells and
your body's overall sense of well being promote healing
11. All process above will automatically regulate the immune
system
10. Can Healing Touch or Reiki cure diseases,
including cancer?
There are reported cases where energy applications have
brought about miraculous recovery from all kinds of disease.
I have heard and read of tumors shrinking (or disappearing
completely) in both animals and humans.

Yet, whether it's HTA, Reiki or any other type of energy
modality, it is important to understand that it is the body
that has naturally healed in response to the energy work. I
do "healing work", but it is up to the client's own body to
do the actual healing. I am just a facilitator for the
energy. Further, I do not medically diagnose or treat
illness and the energy work is an enhancement to your
traditional medical care.
Also, "curing" and
"healing" are two different things. You can be healed in
many different ways and it's not always the cure that we're
looking for.
Healing will always be for the
highest good of the client. As a practitioner, I have to
take myself out of the final outcome, regardless of what you
and I may be asking for in the healing. You may be healed in
ways that you are not even aware of and not necessarily
where you think you need it. Illness and death
can be our greatest teachers in life and fixing some of
those things may not be to your best interest. Even if we
eat right, take care of ourselves and do all we can to
prevent illness, doesn't it still show up in our lives?
Everything is good, and everything is in God's plan.
I believe that if you are seeking healing in the first
place, then the healing has something wonderful for you. You
have come to this web page for a reason. Every healing
session is a new experience and can even give you more
than you are asking for.
I
got into healing work out of a desperate attempt to find
healing for my cat, Bowie. He benefited greatly by the work
and his quality of life improved, but he was not cured. He
passed away several months later, yet, I believe his passing
was easier because of the energy work. I felt good about
giving him that precious gift.
Was a cure to his
disease in his or my best interest? No. Otherwise, he would
have recovered. Did it teach me anything? Not only did it
teach me, but it totally changed my life. Animals are,
by far, our GREATEST teachers. When they come into your
life, consider yourself blessed...and pay attention. They
have something to offer you.
11. I like to receive Reiki. Can I overdo it?
Generally, no. But if your sessions are too close
together your body may not have a chance to catch up with
the healing process that was started on the table. If you
experience a healing reaction, you will
need time to let your body recover.
Because Reiki is
guided by God-Consciousness, it can never do harm.
12. Can everyone learn Reiki or Healing Touch? How
are they different?
Yes! Reiki is the easiest to learn and can be used right
away. The different thing about Reiki is that the ability to
use it is passed on to the student by the Reiki Master
Teacher. It is a very pure, beautiful
process and will increase one's spiritual awareness.
With HTA and HTP there are several precise techniques
taught, but they are also easy to learn. You can become a
certified practitioner after completing four levels of HTA
and five levels of HTP. There are several certification
requirements which are outlined in their websites. Like
Reiki, the work in either Healing Touch program is also very
spiritual.
Healing Touch for Animals
® is different in that it uses
tuning forks and essential oils.
With either modality, the energy is coming from the same
place and the intent to heal on the part of the practitioner
is of the utmost importance.
13. Why does the distant healing cost the same as
a personal appointment?
The time allotted to you for the session is the same. I will be going through the motions and processes of an actual session and it will take just as long as it would if I saw you in person. Often, it's nice for the client to be able to relax at home and not have to leave the house.
14. How do your tuning forks work?
Through
Healing Touch for Animals ®
I was introduced to the 'OM Tuners' , which were developed
by Arden and Jack Wilken of INNER SOUND.
I have not studied sound therapy in depth, but I have
learned enough to use these gentle, sound emitting forks on
both people and animal clients.

Tuning forks emit a pure sound and are manufactured to
reproduce specific frequencies. Sounding two forks at once
sound the "pure fifth interval", which is the second most
important interval used in sound healing.
The cerebral spinal fluid, which is throughout the brain
and the spinal cord is thought to be moved by the pure fifth
interval. This fluid flows with a rhythmic impulse and is a
major healing mechanism of the body. This is the basis
behind CranioSacral Therapy.
Also,
the "OM" sound emitted by these forks is said to match the
resonation of the earth itself. This is why people meditate
to the chant of "om".
By activating the forks
and holding them to the ears, a sense of relaxation and
calming can occur. Animals are very attuned to this and I
have seen people have an immediate physical reaction to
hearing the tones.
Placed at the level of the heart, the pure fifth interval
is a wonderful enhancement to any meditation and I use them
often to help me
focus and ground before doing healing work. They can be used
to clear the energy in a treatment room or in the whole
house.
The forks are also used on the body, vibrating and
resonating through the bones, on a joint or simply along the
energy pathways. They can be used to stimulate healing of
wounds and fractures.
15. I had energy work and felt sick the next day.
What happened?
You may have experienced what is
known as a "healing reaction" or "healing crisis". This is
usually an indication that your body is preparing to heal by
detoxifying. Following a session, you could develop a
headache or fatigue, etc. It's a good idea to drink plenty
of water following a session in order to flush out toxins in
your system. Sometimes symptoms worsen before they get
better.
16. Do you have to know what's wrong with my pet in
order to work on him?

It helps for the animal caretaker to tell me as much as
possible, but not entirely necessary. The energy field can
allude to some ailments. Also, the energy channeled by the
practitioner will go where it is needed in the body and will
be taken in by the animal to help where there is a problem.
Specific information helps me when it comes to communicating
to the pet and focusing on a particular area, but I do not
have to be working on a particular area for the energy to
move and begin the healing process.
17. My puppy is excitable and would never stand
still for a session. Can you help her?
Yes. I can do a distant session from another location, or I can be in the same room and do the work "hands-off". She will still receive the benefits and may even settle down during the session. It is impossible to keep my hands on an excited pet, and it causes undue stress to the pet. Since I don't have to actually place my hands on the body, it still works!
18. If my pet is worked on, why would I need it,
too? I'm a happy person.

It's great when we're happy and things are going well in
our lives. You may not need work. But, be aware that our
pets can pick up on our stresses, even when we are not with
them. If we are having a bad day at work, they can sense it
because they are connected to us energetically, no matter
where we are. Even if we don't "tell" them our problems,
they know what's happening with us. If your pet has energy
work done and keeps reverting back to the same behavior or
previous condition, it may be that they are dealing with
your issues and not theirs.
19. My pet has separation anxiety. What good will
HTA do?
Some HTA techniques involve communication with you pet. This can help them to understand where it is you are going and assure them that you'll return. A balanced energy system can also keep them more "grounded" and less likely to get out of whack when you leave the house. Essential oils can assist with aroma therapy as well. Please do not hesitate to take them into your veterinarian for a check up as these problems can be emotional manifestations of physical problems. If your pet is put on behavior medication, HTA can work with your animal until the behavior can be modified and the medication discontinued.
20. If my pet has to be euthanized, how can energy
work help?
Aside from the comfort and peace energy work can give an
animal during health and sickness, balancing the
energy system can help them in their transition. Sometimes
pets get stuck in the physical longer than they would like
to be, especially because of their ties to us. They are not
letting go because we often don't want to let go. Working
with the energy that connects them to the universe and God
can help them to know that it is OK for them to pass on from
their physical bodies. Opening up the flow of energy most
always heightens spiritual connections in the animals and
the practitioner.
I can use energy work to communicate with them that you
love them and only want what is in their highest good. An
energy session can aid in helping you and your pet to say
good-bye.
21. What is an aura? I can't see it or feel it.
The aura is a field of energy patters that
surround all living things and is ever changing. The aura
has several layers that start outside of the body and move
inward. There are lights and colors associated with
the aura and they change dependent on our health, mood,
state of mind, etc.
The aura interacts with the
earth's atmosphere and a healthy aura filters out and
protects you from energy pollutants in the environment as
well as vibrations and energies from other people.
Have you ever met or been near someone who makes you feel
uncomfortable for no apparent reason? Chances are they are
angry, ill or depressed and you are absorbing negative
energy from them. On the flip side, someone who radiates
positive energy, or "lights up a room" has an aura that is
expanded with positive energies and your aura has picked up
on it. Generally, ill health or depression can deplete your
auric field and collapse it on your body. A healthy auric
field is an important key to maintaining physical health.
22. What are chakras and meridians?
Chakra is a Sanscrit term meaning "wheel". They are areas
on the physical body that act as portals for energy. The are
spinning vortexes that extend out from the body,
transporting energy to and from the body. The energy that is
pulled in comes from the environment and from other people.
The body has seven major chakras, each one is associated
with various organs of the body and levels of spiritual and
physical energy. Each chakra is energetically coded with
your life history as well as an aspect of your personality.
Everything you are is reflected in your chakras. Animals
have chakras as well.
The chart shows the basic
areas of each chakra. As you move up from the base to the
crown, the energies and organs associated with the chakras
move from physical to spiritual. The heart chakra is the
center chakra and is considered the transformational point
between the physical and spiritual.

Light and colors also move through each chakra. The
colors that are represented are the ones that are often seen
and associated with the particular areas, although these
change all the time. Colors are vibrations of energy, each
holding a different vibration and purpose.
There are also numerous minor chakras on the physical body.
They are on the palms of the hands, the feet and in each
joint.
In energy medicine, the chakras are a main focus because
if the energy is not flowing within the chakras, the
associated organs or physical areas suffer. Compare it to
your cells not receiving blood or oxygen. Although lack of
blood or oxygen is certain death, the disruption of energy
flow to the body can be the forerunner of disease, ill
spiritual heath and poor life balance. Every malady that
effects our physical bodies in often preceded by a
disruption in our energy body. All life experiences,
including trauma, is held in our energy fields. Energy work
can release and restore balance and health.
Meridians are energy pathways that run through the
physical body, which also serve as acupuncture points.
Basically, acupuncture and acupressure use needles or
physical pressure to stimulate the flow of energy or to
release or redistribute it. In Reiki or Healing Touch, these
pathways are affected by the energy flow connection from the
practitioner. Blocked pathways can be opened up and
restored.
The meridians also travel in specific
directions and serve various organs and physiology
systems.
23. My mother needs healing work, but she would
never agree to a Reiki session. Can I pay you to have a
distant session with her without her knowing?
There is something that I refer to as "energy etiquette". In other words, imposing energy is, to me, personal invasion of privacy and I would not do it. There are exceptions. If you are your mother's caretaker and she is unable to make the decision on her own, or unconscious, as in an emergency situation, I would do the work. She would still benefit.
