Reiki

Reiki (RAY-kee) is a Japanese word commonly translated as "universal life force energy" or "spiritually guided life energy". It is a natural and holistic therapy that promotes relaxation and stress reduction, enabling the body to naturally heal itself. Although universal energy has been used for healing for centuries, Dr. Mikao Usui discovered the technique in the early 1900's. Reiki was brought from Japan to the West in 1938.

In the far east, energy work has been performed for thousands of years.

In addition to our physical presence, we are energy bodies that are comprised of energy transport portals, inner energy system channels (chakras and meridians) and outer energy fields (the aura). Energy is a component of all living things, thus imbalances or blockages in our energy bodies can eventually cause illness, stress or disease in our physical bodies.

The Reiki practitioner serves as an energy conduit to aid the client's body to balance its energy through therapeutic touch. The flow of energy does not come from the practitioner's personal energy, but from a limitless source (God) and is channeled through either a light touch to the body or above the body within the client's energy field. Reiki energy automatically goes where it is needed to break up unwanted energy and promote healing of body, mind and spirit. In addition to whole body relaxation, it promotes inner peace and clarity of mind and can increase energy levels and vitality.

Reiki is gentle, non-invasive and can never cause harm. Anyone can learn to practice it and it can have phenomenal results when practiced on people and animals.

Reiki is not a religion, nor does the client have to maintain a specific belief system in order to benefit from it. However, it is very spiritual in nature and does require the heart-centered, focused intention of healing from the practitioner. It will work regardless of the client's belief in it.

Reiki is not a replacement for traditional medical care, but a compliment to it. It can alleviate medical side-effects and help quicken recovery time from medical treatment side effects or surgery.

Reiki For Animals

Reiki works the same with animals as it does with people. It will produce relaxation eKelly and Macyffects within the animals' inner energy channels and outer energy field.

The Reiki energy is naturally accepted by the animals, as they are inherently tuned into it. In other words, there is usually no resistance, as you sometimes find with people.

Using Reiki in an animal shelter situation or with highly distressed or injured animals can work wonders, as it is able to be applied safely from a distance - either in the presence of the animal or at another location.

I have found that many animals prefer Reiki in "hands-off" applications. Sometimes it is much easier for the practitioner and more comfortable to them.
